Wendell had his first acting award when he won as Best Supporting Actor award for the movie 'Sabel' at the 2005 Gawad Urian Awards. His victory was a memorable one as he was able to beat Dennis Trillo, who was on his way to getting a grandslam Best Supporting Actor victory for Aishite Imasu 1941: Mahal Kita.
Looking back, Wendell was discovered by actor Richard Gomez and then managed by Douglas Quijano.
